One Question: What are your Dreams?

Video and images created by author

Dear humans of the world:

I have but one question for you.

What are your dreams?

Are they to imagine create
write paint
sculpt invent?
Are they to slay dragons
feed the hungry
nurse the sick
birth the babes?

What are your dreams?

Are they to hide bow serve deny pretend?
to shrink and doubt?
to wait and shiver?
Are they to construct the most unshakeable excuses
and the truest lies?

What are your dreams?

Are they to love the hardest
feel the deepest
laugh cry scream shout?
To be heard and seen and fully alive?

What are your dreams?

Are they to run the fastest?
fly the highest?
bend and breathe and reach and soar?
To grow tall above the canopy
and wide beyond the stars?

What are your dreams?

to close your eyes and hold your breath?
to go numb and still
and fade and blend?
To watch the clock and count the hours?

What are your dreams?

to sneak through the undergrowth?
to crash through the waves?
to break through the walls and
escape from the chains?

What are your dreams?

to hold babies to your breast?
to hold lovers in your legs?
to hold meetings in boardrooms?
to hold rapture on mountaintops?

What are your dreams?

to build cages?
to build nests?
to build sanctuary?
to build wholeness?

What are your dreams?

Are they tender or loud?
Are they nameless and dormant?
Are they scratching like claws
or pounding like fists?
Where do you hide them?
Why are they lost?

Now is the time, Dreamer.
Open your eyes.

  1. ?mind if I use these lovely words this week?

Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble. #johnlewis ________________________________
