The Secret About Vulnerability

I’ve been feeling called to write about vulnerability again.

Too often we are still associating it with weakness, but this couldn’t be further from the truth!

The concept of vulnerability is SO IMPORTANT: to finding presence, joy, empowerment and to manifesting the things we want to achieve in our lives.

Without it we only tiptoe on the surface of life. We fear the icy waters of the PLUNGE.

We stare across the pool, smiling sweetly at the others playing, splashing, diving down into the depths.

We tell ourselves: That kind of guiltless abandon is not for us. We are content watching from the shore. We don’t like wet; we don’t like to show too much skin; we don’t like the feel of prickly goosebumps when we are exposed. There is too much risk! Of choking, of drowning, of losing our trunks and baring our nether-selves to the world.

So we stand there, hold back, and say: THIS IS WHAT WE WANT.

This is all we need to feel content, to feel just ok enough. BIG LIFE isn’t for us… we’re ‘small life’ people.

And we are just fine getting only our toes wet and never knowing the exhilarating freedom of stripping down to our souls and diving headfirst into the waters of love, emotion, pain, connection and risk.

But, here’s the secret that our society has been hiding from us, from men and women alike:

Inside vulnerability hides POWER.

That’s it. That’s where your power is.

Feeling lost? Uncertain? Out of control? Not sure where you are headed or how on earth you are going to get there? You can’t remember who you were before you got buried in life’s problems?

Open up to vulnerability.

Let yourself FEEL.

Let yourself be SEEN.

Let yourself RISK PAIN.

Step across the threshold in the unknown and trust that whatever you find there will be, at best – MARVELOUS, and at worst – LIFE-CHANGING.

Vulnerability… it’s scary. But that is where truth lives. That is where change lives. And that’s where you are going to find your POWER.

  1. “knowing the exhilarating freedom of stripping down to our souls” There is the journey right there. Vulnerability takes courage, but for me it’s healing. Thank you for your powerful words and truth!
